The Hong Kong Institute of Jingjiao Studies warmly welcomes the announcement that the 8th Salzburg International Conference on Syriac Christianity in China and Central Asia will be held in Hong Kong from 14–17 July 2027.
The conference is jointly organized by the Centre for the Study of the Christian East (ZECO), University of Salzburg, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It will bring together scholars from around the world working on Syriac Christianity, Jingjiao, Central Asia, and related fields.
The decision to hold this conference in Hong Kong is of particular historical significance, as it brings the international study and exchange of Jingjiao and Syriac Christianity closer to one of its own historical settings. It also provides a fitting opportunity for scholars from around the world to gather in a region that has become an important centre for research into the history of Christianity in China and Central Asia.
According to the organizers, conference sessions will be held on 14–15 July and 17 July, with a provisional field trip to the Ordos Bronze Crosses Collection at the University of Hong Kong Museum on 16 July. An optional post-conference excursion to Quanzhou is planned for 18–20 July. The official Call for Papers and further conference information are expected to be circulated in late September 2026.
